Lots of interesting designs, but the art is dull and strange at times. Still, worth the price if you like Battletech.

Good amount of mechs and vehicles. Slightly less clan mechs than IS mechs, but many clan vehicles. Was a good TRO. Would recommend to BT fans.

I was very dissapointed with the reissue of TR:3060. All fo the reissues to date have been updated with Jihad refrences, performance review, deployment and noteable pilots. None of that was included this issue. The only difference from the previous release other than the cover is the removel of Battleforce stats. If you have the old 3060 don't bother with this. If you do not, then by all means its a usefull book.

Aarons was West Point's official lenser and a World War II combat shutterbug before becoming "court photographer to the Jet Set," as editor Sweet calls him, for most of the twentieth century's latter half. He also did fashion photography, though "my models were wearing their own clothes," he said. Aarons' images constitute the ultimate glamour photography. Presented by location, from Monaco through southern Europe and a bit of central Africa, then west to Bermuda, the Caribbean, Mexico, and the U.S., they show the rich and famous (more of the former than the latter, who are mostly movie stars) at play. Aarons never used a stylist, a makeup artist, or anything but natural light (if you were rich, famous, and ugly, you stayed away from the places Aarons photographed), and since the settings encouraged swimwear, it is astonishing how beautiful these people were. Astonishing, too, is the electric intensity of the colors, even when visual details are smudged by distance and softened focus. They don't take pictures like this anymore. It's a wonderful book, very nostalgic, incredible imagery of a rare glimpse into the 60s jet set. I do think it's odd... and I've paged through the book 4 or 5 times.. the amazing photograph on the book's cover, isn't in the book? Maybe not in my version, but I thought that was a bit odd. Typically it'd be included in the book. Many of the photos span 2 pages leaving the page break / binding in the middle of the image. I love the images and wish the book was large for every image to remain on a single page. But this is a minor complaint, very subjective. The photography and subjects are worth every second.

We assumed that as the fourth book in a series of compilations of Slim Aarons's photographs of his years living La Dolce Vita, the material would begin to run a little thin. It doesn't. What a treasure trove he seems to have built during his lifetime of photography. The fact that this book is solely about Italy, which was his preferred home away from home, no doubt helps. Beautiful people, beautiful locations, exquisite photography. And I'm sure I'm not the only guy who will appreciate the additional, more revealing photo of Catherine Wilkes, perhaps St. Louis' most beautiful export.Regarding another reviewer's comments: The book presents photographs "from the period", beautifully reproduced on high quality paper, just as with the prior Aarons books, leading me to believe that the negative reviewer is confusing this book with another publication.Bottom line: if you liked his other three books, as we did, you are likely to enjoy this one just as much. Same format, same size, every bit as enjoyable.

After spending three weeks touring Italy I fell in love with the architecture, food and people. I wanted something to remind me of the beauty and this book does that. These pictures were taken quite some time ago. The sad part is if you research the people in them, almost all of them are deceased.

This was a holiday gift for my Italian wife. Very beautifully assembled and a wonderful selection of images, it compels one to want to visit. An excellent addition to your coffee table book collection.

All of Mr. Aaron's books are just perfect. That is if you really do appreciate the good life or can appreciate without getting uptight over those who do. For me, this is a continuation and a perfect complement to all the other Aarons books that have preceded it.This is a very fun volume. Enjoy!

Not my favorite of all...I prefer the photos that land a little closer to home, ie. American Blue Bloods, but still Slim Aarons so it has to be good.

Aarons displays the beautiful lives of the beautiful people in an era when the priviledged were unapologetic for their good fortune. His books are unique and unavailable in stores. If you're a big-time devin Townsend fan then this is a must-read! Lots of insight to his creative world and general perspective on life. There's a couple chapters on the music business which is very interesting and recommended for anybody who is curious about that world. He says he's only half there. I can't wait until he's all the way there!

Love Devin Townsend's music, and enjoyed learning about his early life, ups and downs, but the book needs some serious editing for structure and flow.

Great book that details the insights and inner workings of one of the greatest musical geniuses of our time, Devin Townsend. I especially enjoyed the pictures with descriptions at the end of the book.

How do we know what we know about the Ancient World? The authors of this terrific history are willing to reveal the translation process from findings to speculations. Archeological evidence is interpreted and at times reinterpreted to explain what we think we know about what happened between two and four thousand years ago in Europe. The data used is current and findings from just the past few years are referenced to support various hypotheses.Nonetheless this book isn't an archeological dig but a full scale history. Finding a history that covers both Greece and Rome (with side trips to the Near East and Africa) can be difficult, but finding one that does a good job in under 400 pages is an accomplishment indeed. Although much is covered, the writing never feels like a skim. In fact, if a caveat can be made, it's that the writing at times can be too dense. Saying that, it is always clear and jargon-free.Another strength is the wealth of maps and charts that clarify the text, and the aptly chosen color plates, the latter used more sparingly.Many ideas are controversial which has lead some reviewers to direct this book to the specialists. Controversial ideas are presented as such and the data for and against are easily followed (the African influence on Ancient Greece, whether flipping the evidence supports either Greek or Phoenician presence in the colony of Al Mina in the Levant, for example).This volume continues the outstanding precedence of the Penguin History of Europe series that have previously produced excellent single author volumes to satisfy the academic as well as the general reader. This is probably the best and most up-to-date single volume text covering both Greek and Roman history currently in print.

There are thousands of books about the classical world so one might ask if we really need another. The answer is yes we do. Our understanding of the past is constantly changing as new information is discovered. New writers have new ways of looking at old subjects. Most of all as the world we live in changes we need new books to help us connect with a past that is constantly moving.The Birth of Classical Europe is a wonderful introduction to the ancient world. The authors focus on Greek history and then move on to Rome. They do not spend a lot of time on the civilizations of Mesopotamia, the Ancient Near East, and Egypt. That is not because of any Eurocentric prejudice, but rather they focus their story on one specific region. They spend a lot of time on Minoan and Mycenaean cultures. Using archeological discoveries from the last 20 years they build up a picture of the ancient world that is a little less catastrophic than the previous pictures that we have had. They argue more for a story of a sequence migrations that ends with assimilation. This is a little less sudden than the image of hordes of invaders wiping out the natives and resettling the region.The authors spend a lot of time with ancient authors and recognize the value of the ancient sources. They do not accept the ancient stories at face value, that would of course be a mistake. Instead they look at the archeology and see how that illuminates the stories. Often credible theories of the past can be built when one uses this method.This book is not meant to be a comprehensive history of the ancient world. Instead it is an introduction to the period. As the first volume of The Penguin History of Europe its purpose is to give the reader an understanding of the foundations of European civilization. The book is designed for the general reader. If you are not well read in the period you can pick this book up and learn a lot. I consider myself to be moderately well read in the period and I learned a lot. The Further Reading section at the end has a wonderful list of books, both scholarly and general reader, that should keep the person interested in the period satisfied for a long time to come.I highly recommend this book for anyone who would like to learn about the ancient world. This can be read as a general reader book and could also be used as a high school level textbook for home schoolers or others interested in providing young people with well written book that is informative and enjoyable.

The Birth of Classical Europe, by Simon Price and Peter Thronemann is the first book in a series, The Penguin History of Europe. This first book covers the beginnings of Western Civilization from the Trojan War to the time of Augustine of Hippo. That is a lot of ground to cover in only four hundred pages, and The Birth of Classical Europe barely skims the centuries of history. Still, these are appropriate endpoints.The Birth of Classical Europe is really not so much a narrative history as a study on how history was used by the Greeks, Romans, and others to establish their place in the world. For the people of classical Europe, the Trojan War was, in many respects the beginning of history, as the first event of consequence that they could date and had any information about. The fact that their information was filtered through the legends memorialized in Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, and that they did not, in fact, have any real knowledge of the events centuries before their time was irrelevant. Greek cities and families traced their origins to heroes and events in Homer and other myths and any new custom or institution was invariably held to have had its actual origins in the legendary past. Thus, Athenian democracy, which was only fully established in the fifth century, was believed to have been started by Theseus. The Persian invasion was another chapter in the long struggle between East and West. The Romans got into the act too. They believed themselves to be descended from the Trojan prince Aeneas and placed themselves firmly in the mythological history of the Greeks. Even unrelated peoples such as the Gauls and inhabitants of Asia came to view themselves in this context.If the Trojan War is a good point to begin this survey, than Augustine is the natural endpoint. For by Augustine's time the rising faith of Christianity had begun to create a new historical context for the peoples of the West. While the Romans hardly abandoned their classical heritage, they did begin to draw more on the history in the Bible to understand their place in the history and the world. This tendency perhaps reached its climax with Augustine's greatest work, The City of God, and it may well be said that after him we find the habits of thought we associate with the medieval period.The Birth of Classical Europe is worth reading in order to get a good bird's eye view of the formation of our civilization and if it has a fault, it is simply that there is not enough space in the book to give every cultural and historical development its full attention.

One of the better Kindle technical books I have purchased. Just started getting into it be so far it's excellent.

This book was a gift for my husband William Schmitt who wrote this review:The BOOK: I purchased this book, because it averaged out the best choice after reading the reviews. I like to read a book rather than online content, but this It is not an easy read. There is a of of superfluous wording. Many books make suggestions on "WHY" you may want to do a certain thing, but this book does not.The Value of this purchase is the online VIDEOS for each chapter, The Facebook Group and the FREE presets.There is a link and a QR code to view a video that accompanies each chapter - 14 Hours worth of video!Once you are registered after purchasing the book, you can join "Lightroom Video Book Readers Group" on Facebook - which is a wealth of information not found elsewhere online.There are over 150 FREE Presets you can download.You can also download a catalog of photos from the book in RAW format to experiment.I highly recommend this book for Beginners, Intermediates and Experts.William Appell Schmitt

I downloaded the Kindle version of this book and I like that I can read AND watch the videos that come with the book! The link to the videos was a little confusing to access. First you have to register your purchase and then you get an email stating you now have access to the online videos. Once on the website, I kept getting an error message that I didn't have access but I clicked on another link on the page and was able to see all of them. The videos are not boring! They are well-made and Tony is easy to watch and goes through every feature of Lightroom. I've learned so much about the program already and while watching on my Kindle I have Lightroom loaded on my computer and I can stop the videos and practice what I just learned! I like reading the book, but I get so excited about something I just read that I keep running to my computer to try it out. So the videos are great for me but the book is a great reference and has lots of detail. This has been a great investment and I have already gone back to re-do some photos that I adjusted previously while experimenting on my own. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who would like to learn Lightroom but thinks it may be too advanced.

First, Tony's book is very simple to read, thorough and exhaustive. From the most common features...to the hidden gems, he covers it all. He explains how to use each feature in a simple and easy to understand manner.However, in my opinion, here's what sets apart his from so many other great books on LR (and there are some good ones out there). He not only explains how to use the tools in LR but he explains and points out why you would WANT to use them. I was in no way a novice in LR before but I sure found out I wasn't taking full advantage of its many features. My photos have improved remarkably as a result of reading this book.Thanks Tony and Chelsea, you guys have not only taught me a lot but you've also freshened my love for photography again.

There are a lot of ebooks and hardcover books out there about Lightroom. This is the best!! Period. There are several reasons why and let me explain why it is, at least to me.I'm semi-retired and, though always interested in photography, I wanted to go further now that I have more time and so I checked out Lightroom (LR). I have only been using LR now for about 3 years now, having started with 4. I watched a lot of videos and read a lot of free stuff about it to start and that did help a lot. But I wanted to go further as my photography was going further so I bought one of the popular books for LR 5. It was great and also helped with getting a bit better with LR though I wasn't exactly crazy about the writing style of that one.A while later, and mostly out of curiosity, I also decided to get Tony's LR book, the predecessor to this one, and WOW, what a difference! Such a unique approach and delivery. The written sections about everything are clear, concise and you know how to use that part of LR when you've finished each section. Tony's speaking/writing style is conversational and, with the video parts, you just feel like you are sitting in the room with him while he explains things with hands on examples. I really like the way the link to the video is right in the related section and clicking on it takes you right to that section in the overall video. So, you can read a section or just click on the link and watch the video about it. I like to do both. In the ebook there is enough text to clearly explain the function Tony is teaching but also the examples are well done. The "before and after" pics not only show the changes in a photo but also the position of the sliders that made the difference. Well done.So, LR 6 comes out. I didn't hesitate but pre-orderd the updated ebook from Tony and I'm not disappointed. Why? For 2 main reasons. Sure, it covered everything the previous book did but it also clearly notes and teaches the changes in LR6 so you don't sort of have to start over to find them.The second reason deserves its own paragraph. Price. The original book (with those great, linked videos that double cover each point of learning LR) is reasonably priced, especially in comparison with a couple of the more popular LR books. Then, as if that wasn't enough, the charge to update to the LR6 book was extremely reasonable again, compared to others. I just received an email that the LR6 version of another LR5 book I have was ready. When I saw the price for owners of the LR5 book my first thought was "Really? That much to update?"Summary. This book is well written, covers LR very well in a knowledgeable but conversational style, AND has the linked videos. Will I get the update to that other book? Why? I have Tony's book. If Amazon let you use an occasional "Super rating" on maybe a 10 star scale, this book gets a 10 on quality, content, features, and value.Now stop reading reviews, buy the book, go out and shoot, then come back and let this book make you better at post processing those shots.
