This is a great book. The author is clearly commited to sharing his knowledge of green drink health benefits. The photography is vibrant (which piques my appetite), the recipes are very diverse and he provides some very good basic info for those like me who are newer to self juicing/blending green drinks.I purchased a green drink subscription service that delivered delicious, local organic drinks to my door each week, but I wanted to taste more variety. That service was excellent, by the way and I may restart it and just make additional versions at home.I bought two of these books along with two powerful blenders, one for me, another for a gift.You will not be disappointed with this book. The recipes are so unique and creative, yet call for produce and fruit that are easily available. I love some of the clever names given to the recipes.Author Jason Manheim hit a home run with this very helpful guide to better health through green drinks. I am extremely pleased with this purchase.
Lots of great tips and the recipes are very tasty. I still would like to find a smoothie book that shows all of the stats (calories, fat, fiber, etc) so that I could incorporate weight watchers with it, or at least being able to count calories. Got to be careful with smoothies because I actually gained weight by adding too many super foods.If someone would come out with a weight watchers smoothie book with the points, they would make a million!
I thought this book was worth the money. It has many easy recipes to consider especially if you are newer to juicing. I prefer mostly vegetable juicing, but this book provides ways to add in some fruits to improve the taste if you must. It also gives you some tips on cutting vegetables and fruits, and portions. I think the title of the book is misleading, because it's not a diet book at all. Matter of fact, one of the things the author says at the beginning is that he believes juicing to be more of a supplement that will make you feel amazing and provides many health benefits (not juicing for the purpose of replacing meals). He said it's not a diet, and that he dares the reader to try juicing for a few days just to see how they feel. The point was that it makes you feel so good that you'll enjoy juicing and it will become more of a lifestyle than "diet" and a supplement and not meal replacement. I liked the pictures in the book, thought the recipes were simple and very clear. It allowed me to experiment. My favorite personal mixture: kale, spinach, parsley, green and red chard, cilantro, cucumber, celery, apple, lemon and ginger.
This has been one of the best green drink books I've used. I especially like that you get recipes for blending/emulsifying whole fruits/vegetables, AND a section for juicing. IMO blending/emulsifying gives you the highest nutrient/fiber content, but Jason's explanation of juicing to provide wholesome nutrients for anyone who really has compromised health is exceptional. ( as an RN, I understand how those who are seriously ill would have a harder time digesting sufficient nutrients.) The book is great, with beautiful photos for each drink, and a note mentioning if better for beginning green drink consumers or those seasoned to more greens, rather than higher sugared fruits. I've been blending for approx. 2 years, to make a protein meal replacement shake each day. I've noticed significant improvements in my hair and nails, and an avoidance of the winter cold/flu season. I have airborne allergies, but did avoid viruses for many years, as I ate a huge salad everyday. Three winters ago I moved to a new state, and am experiencing exposure to new grandsons round of colds. After making added greens a part of my diet, I only had a mild infection the 2nd year, and this year none at all. This is a great book for beginners.
