I found Dr. Morey's book to be extremely valuable. In fact, I plan on using it for teaching purposes. The topics he discussed were very clearly presented and this would make an excellent textbook for a class on basic historical theology. The book was very well laid out and the concepts that he presented were rather heavy but understandable to a laymen that had no theological background. I especially liked the fact that he mentioned evangelical leaders that he believes have a somewhat twisted view of certain theological concepts. My only criticism of the book is that it could have been laid out better. I would have preferred to have it published as a hardback. Also, he needs to have it proofread by a professional. This is such a good book that the format tended to draw me away from the content at times. If you ever had questions about what is going on within the seminaries of this nation and within church leadership circles regarding orthodox theology, this book is a "must read!" Definitely a keeper that you will go back to time and again for references.Total Truth (Study Guide Edition / Paperback Edition): Liberating Christianity from Its Cultural CaptivityIdols for Destruction: The Conflict of Christian Faith and American CultureHow Should We Then Live? A lot to digest in this book
I am only half way through Dr. More's book but it is an eye opener to how far Christian's have fallen from trusting scripture as our authority.I highly recommend this book if you want to have your humanistic tendencies exposed and corrected. I didn't realize how much of my thought process is really based on humanism. Praise God for revealing my err.Dr. Morey does not hold back and calls out "Christians" by name for holding to obviously false, and humanistic ideas. I caution the sensitive who have a hard time being objective. The book does have several typos but they are obvious and they do not impede the flow or confuse the meaning.I am looking forward to reading more of Dr.Morey's work.
I put two stars on this for one reason. Mr. Morey seem to be an angry writer and condemns other Christians who do not quite see things his way. There is a wealth of Reformed Theology in this book and much of it is very well done. I just don't like to see public confrontation between Christians, and by Christians, I mean those who are truly saved by the grace of God.
I actually had the honor of meeting Dr. Robert Morey himself and received this book from him. He actually wanted to instruct me using this book. In Natural Law, Dr. Morey employs a well written hard hitting expose of humanism. Like another reviewer who posted here, I too had to change some humanistic habits of mine upon reading this book. High points of the book include his outstanding expositions of the book of Job and Ecclesiastes. His insight on how humanists and scripture view trees was very thought provoking. His expose of what seminaries now teach are well researched. Dr. Morey seems to expand on many of his arguments he used in his epistemology and hermeneutics sections of his Trinity and Issues book.I did however have a few quips about the book, however. For starters, I think Dr. Morey overgeneralizes Arminians as heathens and humanists. Instead of focusing the book about Arminianism vs. Calvinism, he should have focused on just Christianity (Sola Scriptura) vs Humanism. Interestingly enough, Dr. Morey exposes the humanistic arguments of RC Sproul who himself adheres to the Reformed Calvinistic faith. To make matters even more interesting, Dr. Morey in Natural Law makes the unbiblical assertion that God had to directly control the writers of scripture in order for scripture to be inspired. He argues God must have taken over the body of a writer of scripture. We don't see this phenomena anywhere in scripture. The book of Revelation especially refutes this assertion as God more than once commanded John to write what he told him (Rev 1:2, 12; Rev 3:2, 14).Quips asides, I found this book an excellent and outstanding book. If one can get past what Dr. Morey presents as a staunch strong Calvinistic worldview, I have no doubt one will enjoy this read and be blessed by Dr. Morey's knowledge.Woody Devonish- Layman defender of God's word
